“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised”
2 Corinthians 5:14,15
God has richly blessed me through Jesus Christ, who meets my deepest need (Ephesians 1:3, 7). He has given me a sense of belonging by His love, shown me the path to live in the best way, revealed real and reliable answers to life’s questions, and He has given me the blessing of life that never ends (John 14:6, 18, 21)!
I have wondered where this world came from, why I’m here, and where I’m going when I die. It just makes sense that the world must have come from an intelligent and powerful Creator. It follows that He gave me the ability to ask and ponder answers to these questions (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Further, it makes sense that He would provide real and reliable answers that everyone can find and understand, such as are found in the bible. Thus, in addition to overwhelming evidence of its historical reliability, I believe the bible is a universal, unchanging standard that the Creator provided to communicate with me, His creation. God has given me the bible to tell me who He is, who He intends me to be, and how I can have a relationship with Him (2 Peter 1:3).
I have many flaws common to people that essentially amount to pursuing lustful desires and pride (1 John 2:16). I have done things that hurt my relationship with God, other people, and my own self. The bible refers to this as sin and defines it as living my own way instead of God’s (James 1:14, 15). I have felt the pain, guilt, and hopelessness that come from sin.
In His word, God warns that I am deserving of death, but declares the good news that I can instead have life because of Jesus (Romans 6:23). He created me to be like Him, to live by His way, and to have a relationship with Him. My sin threatened to separate me from Him forever, but Jesus died a criminal’s death and paid the price in my place. Further, He was resurrected and in the same way will raise me up that I may live eternally with Him! He has done all of this because He loves me, and He wants me to love Him back, to thank and praise Him with my lips and life.
Jesus meets my deepest need. I have obeyed the word of Christ and connected with Christ by confessing my faith in Him as the Son of God, and by being baptized for the remission of my sins (Acts 2:38). I am connected with Christians through our mutual bond with Christ, and through my local church which provides love and support through life’s challenges (Ephesians 4:15, 16; 5:23; Acts 2:42-47). I have been set free from my sin and now feel the peace, joy, and hope that come from relationship with Jesus (John 8:32; Romans 5:1, 2)!
It is my purpose to glorify God and abide in His love by reflecting Christ’s image in every aspect of my life. In all things, I strive to share and abide in the way, truth, life, and love of Jesus because He died and was raised for me and for all (John 14:6, 18, 21; 2 Corinthians 5:14, 15)!
